The joint anti-terrorist exercises between the armed forces of Russia and Tajikistan commenced on April 7, at the Harb-Maidon training ground, located approximately 20 kilometers from the Tajik-Afghan border. The exercises, scheduled to conclude by April 11, focus on the coordinated efforts of both countries' military contingents to eliminate terrorist groups and prepare for operations in mountainous terrain.

The opening ceremony was held with formal proceedings, featuring soldiers from both nations lining up on the parade ground. Military orchestras performed the national anthems of Russia and Tajikistan, and the national flags of both countries were raised in a symbol of cooperation.
The Russian military contingent taking part in the exercises consists of units from the 201st Russian Military Base of the Central Military District, with the presence of military equipment, such as Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mi-8MTV5-1 transport, as well as reconnaissance drones, tanks, and artillery.
Additionally, experts in communication, operators of strike FPV drones, and mobile electronic warfare units are actively involved in the maneuvers.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the main phase of the exercises will focus on a joint operation aimed at eliminating illegal armed groups and coordinating the defense of state borders. It will also include training to counter breaching armed groups effectively.
The Harb-Maidon training ground, established in 2004 under the bilateral agreement between Russia and Tajikistan, is a key site for military operations in the region. The ground hosts military contingents from Russia’s Central Military District, facilitating training and readiness for regional security challenges.
Tajikistan, along with Kyrgyzstan, remains one of the few Central Asian countries hosting Russian military bases. Approximately 7,000 Russian troops are stationed at two military facilities in Dushanbe and Bokhtar, collectively known as the 201st military base. A 2012 agreement between Russia and Tajikistan ensures the continued presence of Russian military bases in Tajikistan until 2042.
