Presidents Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan and Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan launched the Sughd-Datka 500kV power transmission line, linking the power systems of both countries, as reported by Politik.

The power line sections in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are already completed, with the Afghan segment set to finish by 2026. As part of the project, 1,243 support structures were installed in Kyrgyzstan, a 456 kV power transmission line was constructed, and an additional 500 kV cell was added to the Datka substation.
The project is part of the CASA-1000 large-scale initiative to export electricity from Central Asia to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is worth noting that the CASA-1000 project was launched in 2016 and its cost is about $1.2bn.
"CASA-1000 is an ambitious renewable energy infrastructure construction project that will bring 1,300 megawatts of surplus electricity from Central Asia to high-demand electricity markets in South Asia through new energy infrastructure.”
It is expected that this project will increase the cooperation between Central Asia and South Asia.
Earlier, two countries, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, signed the historic agreement on the borders of the two countries after a long period of dispute.
