Uzbekistan aims to employ 5.2mn people, lift 1.5mn out of poverty, attract $42bn in foreign investment, and boost exports by over $30bn in 2025. On February 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting to review progress on these ambitious goals.
At the meeting, initial results were discussed. In January, 277,000 citizens gained employment, including 91,000 in permanent jobs and 153,000 in entrepreneurship. To further combat poverty, Uzbekistan has introduced new approaches in 32 areas. Recently, expert teams from ministries and khokimiyats traveled to China to exchange experiences, and efforts are now underway to educate citizens on local opportunities for income generation.
Investment remains a key driver of job creation. This year, 8,000 projects worth approximately $14bn are expected to be launched, creating 272,000 permanent jobs. In January alone, Uzbekistan attracted $3bn in foreign investment, with a similar amount planned for February alongside the launch of 623 projects.
Exports have also seen growth, reaching $1.3bn last month. Officials have been instructed to strengthen ties with foreign partners, assist entrepreneurs in entering international markets, and attract new enterprises to expand exports.
During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev emphasized that "2025 will be the most important and decisive year in ensuring employment and reducing poverty." He urged officials to accelerate efforts in implementing targeted projects and achieving economic objectives.
