The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has intensified its efforts to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in Uzbekistan by enhancing training facilities at regional mono-centers. This initiative includes equipping 16 mono-centers with the necessary tools for the training of specialists in photovoltaic (PV) panels and solar heater installations.
Between August and September 2024, 16 regional mono-centers under the "Ishga Marhamat" program received comprehensive training equipment. This includes instructional materials such as presentations, guides, and handouts, as well as practical models of solar panels and solar collectors. The distribution of this equipment was carried out through ceremonies at mono-centers located in Bukhara, Karshi, Namangan, Nukus, and Samarkand.
This equipment handover builds on prior training sessions conducted in October and November 2023, which were designed for electricians and plumbers at the mono-centers. These sessions focused on the application of renewable energy technologies. The initiative is part of the UNDP project "Assisting in the Development of Energy-Efficient Rural Housing," which is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and in partnership with the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction also contributed to the project.
The training support aligns with the Presidential Decree issued on February 16, 2023, which outlines measures to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies in Uzbekistan. This decree underscores the importance of leveraging the country’s approximately 300 sunny days annually to harness clean solar energy. This is particularly crucial for rural areas where traditional electricity may be less accessible.
The newly provided equipment will enable the mono-centers to independently train local specialists in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of solar panels and solar collectors. The training program includes modules on the principles of solar collector operation, electrical supply requirements, safety protocols, and battery systems. Practical training will be facilitated using the provided models.
The UNDP’s "Assisting in the Development of Energy-Efficient Rural Housing" project aims to steer the rapidly growing housing sector in Uzbekistan towards sustainable development practices. The project focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the introduction and expansion of green credit mechanisms for energy-efficient technologies and materials. This approach is intended to enhance demand for energy-efficient and low-carbon housing, thereby improving living conditions in Uzbekistan’s rural areas while minimizing environmental impacts.
