Korean companies aim to localize the production of green technologies in Uzbekistan. This is part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, discussed in a meeting between Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance and Korean companies.
Representatives from various entities participated, including the Green Economy Development Department of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance, the CEO and a researcher from the Korean Institute of Climate Change (KICC), officials from Korea Investment and Securities (KIS) - including the Department Manager and Project Manager - and Korea Western Power's Team Leader.
A plan was discussed to implement a project introducing modern heat pumps in Uzbekistan's social facilities, such as hospitals, greenhouses, and multi-story residential and non-residential buildings. This project, potentially a first in Uzbekistan, is also considering a pilot project in Urgench, located in Uzbekistan's Khorezm region.
The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Korea from January through March 2024 reached $544.1 mn. Exports to Korea amounted to $10.9 mn, with imports totalling $533.2 mn during the same period.
Earlier, Daryo reported that South Korea is considering cooperation with Uzbekistan to meet its annual need for 3,000 automotive workers, aiming to strengthen its automotive sector. The Korea Automobile Industry Association, consisting of 6,800 businesses with a workforce of 48,000, highlighted this need during a recent meeting between Minister of Poverty Alleviation and Employment Behzod Musaev and Kwak Yong, Chairman of the Automotive Industry Association of the Republic of Korea.
