Uzbekistan is set to develop a long-term strategy for its tourism sector, with expert assistance from the international consulting company Reformatics. The initiative aims to transform Uzbekistan into a leading global tourism destination by 2040.
A high-level meeting in Tashkent brought together key officials, including Bakhodir Rakhmatov, Director of the Agency for Strategic Reforms; Aziz Abduhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change; and Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee. Nika Gilauri, General Partner of Reformatics, also participated alongside other company representatives.
Discussions focused on attracting investment, improving tourism infrastructure, developing new destinations, and integrating modern digital solutions. Experts from Reformatics highlighted Uzbekistan’s strong potential, emphasizing its strategic location—within 2,000 km of 21 countries—as a key advantage for regional and international tourism growth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a tripartite agreement was signed, outlining Reformatics’ role in crafting Uzbekistan’s tourism development strategy until 2040. The key objectives include:
- Increasing the number of foreign tourists to 20mn
- Expanding domestic tourism to 30mn visitors
- Boosting tourism’s contribution to GDP to 7%
To achieve these goals, Uzbekistan plans to implement a global marketing strategy, analyze tourist flows, and develop new tourism routes. Additionally, investment packages will be created to enhance infrastructure in key tourist areas.
As part of the collaboration, Reformatics will establish a representative office in Tashkent. The firm’s experts will work closely with industry stakeholders, including government agencies, entrepreneurs, tour operators, and investors, to drive innovative solutions for sustainable tourism growth.
