Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to visit Tajikistan in January 2025 for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. A source from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the visit.
During his stay, President Pezeshkian will meet with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and other senior officials in Dushanbe. Talks are expected to focus on expanding collaboration in culture, science, trade, and regional security, reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
This visit follows a series of diplomatic engagements between the leaders. The two presidents last met on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in September 2024, where Pezeshkian reiterated Tehran’s commitment to deepening relations. Earlier in July 2024, President Rahmon attended Pezeshkian’s inauguration ceremony in Tehran, where he extended an invitation for an official visit to Tajikistan.
The upcoming discussions build on the foundation laid by former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who visited Tajikistan twice during his tenure. Raisi’s first foreign trip as president in September 2021 took him to Dushanbe, underscoring the strategic importance of the relationship. During a return visit in November 2023, 18 cooperation agreements were signed, further strengthening ties in trade, security, and cultural exchange.
The visit is expected to result in further agreements to bolster cooperation in key areas, underscoring the evolving partnership between the two nations.
