Officials from Tajikistan and Iran have pointed out the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of geomatics, marking a significant development in the relationship between the two nations. On June 17, Kayhan International reported that the Director-General of the National Cartographic Center of Iran (NCC), Ali Javidaneh, and the Chairman of the State Committee for Land Management and Geodesy of Tajikistan, Orif Khojazoda, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tehran. This agreement aims to foster and develop cooperation in geomatics between the two countries.
Ali Javidaneh described the agreement as a turning point that will vitally enhance joint cooperation between the nations. His Tajik counterpart, Orif Khojazoda, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the MoU as a crucial step toward solidifying and strengthening bilateral relations. Both officials emphasized the high potential and capabilities of their respective countries in expanding cooperation in the field of geomatics.
Geomatics, as defined by the ISO/TC 211 series of standards, is the discipline concerned with the collection, distribution, storage, analysis, processing, and presentation of geographic data or geographic information. It encompasses a wide range of products, services, and tools involved in the collection, integration, and management of geospatial data. Historically known as surveying engineering, geomatics is categorized under technical geography by the UNESCO Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems.
The signing ceremony was attended by Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Nizomiddin Zohidi, who expressed optimism about the accelerated bilateral cooperation in geomatics. He also highlighted the potential for the export of technical and engineering services between the two countries. Ambassador Zohidi's remarks reflect the broader ambition of both nations to leverage their technical expertise and geographic capabilities to foster deeper ties and mutual growth.
