Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Tehran on July 30, to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
President Rahmon congratulated President Pezeshkian on assuming his new role and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure. Additionally, President Rahmon invited President Pezeshkian to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at his earliest convenience.
During their talks, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including political, economic, health, science, education, and cultural areas. They emphasized the importance of continuing these fruitful collaborations in the future.
The meeting highlighted a fivefold increase in trade turnover between the two countries in recent years, showcasing the potential in their trade and economic partnership. To further harness this potential, both sides agreed on the necessity of ensuring the active work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation. They also highlighted the importance of the Joint Investment Committee and the Joint Council of Entrepreneurs in facilitating effective economic interactions.
President Rahmon and President Pezeshkian discussed the expansion of cooperation in the water, energy, oil and gas sectors, and the fields of nanotechnology. They also focused on attracting investments in these critical areas, reflecting a mutual interest in leveraging each country's resources and expertise.
The Tajik side expressed interest in utilizing the capabilities of the ports of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar for transporting Tajikistan’s goods and products. This strategic move is expected to enhance logistical efficiency and boost trade volumes between the two nations.
Both leaders acknowledged the abolition of the visa regime for mutual travel between Tajikistan and Iran for up to 30 days as a notable development. They expressed confidence that this step would actively contribute to the growth of tourism and strengthen the bonds between the peoples of the two countries.
The discussion also touched on the necessity of strengthening cooperation to address modern challenges and threats, such as terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, and cybercrime. This shared commitment highlights the strategic importance of their alliance in maintaining regional stability and security.
In addition to their bilateral discussions, President Rahmon and President Pezeshkian exchanged views on various international and regional issues of mutual interest, reinforcing their commitment to collaborative approaches on the global stage.
On the same day, President Rahmon also met with the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
