President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution to establish the Gelon tourist and recreational zone in Kashkadarya region, as the official document shows, published on Lex.uz.
The initiative involves a partnership with the Russian company Snows Service, which plans to develop an all-season resort complex near the city of Shakhrisabz. An investment agreement for the project was signed at the interregional cooperation forum in Kazan in October 2023.
Investment Details
The project is expected to involve a total investment of $300mn. During the first phase, $100mn will be allocated by 2027. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 2030.
Land Allocation and Facilities
A total of 2,900 hectares of land has been allocated for the recreational zone for a 30-year period. Plans include the development of hotel complexes, cultural and health centers, shopping and entertainment facilities, and other tourism infrastructure. Businesses will have the opportunity to acquire plots within the zone through an online auction, either for rental or ownership. Revenue from these auctions will be directed to the Gelon zone directorate's account and used for mountain tourism projects and infrastructure development.
The project includes the reconstruction of the Gelon-Khisorak and Khisorak-Sarchashma highways, totaling 33 kilometers. Additionally, 30 kilometers of the Chirokchi-Shurkuduk road and the Miraki-Khisorak highway will be upgraded to third-category roads to support improved accessibility to the region.
