The Ministry of Transport has outlined new payment procedures for bus travel in Tashkent, effective January 1, 2025. Passengers will no longer be able to pay with cash directly to drivers. Instead, single-use tickets will be available for purchase through Paynet, MultiPay, or Oson kiosks installed at or near bus stops.
The Ministry has encouraged passengers to adopt electronic payment systems for faster and more cost-effective travel.
The Tashkent city administration has proposed a resolution to increase public transport fares. Under the draft, the cost of a single-use ticket will rise to 3,000 soums ($0.23), while the fee for transporting large-sized baggage will increase to 4,000 soums ($0.31).
For passengers using bank cards or the ATTO app, the fare will be set at 1,700 soums ($0.13). Additionally, new fare options will be introduced based on the number of trips taken.
In October, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov announced plans to phase out cash payments on buses. Information kiosks equipped with QR code-enabled ticketing systems will be installed at bus stops. Corresponding devices to read these QR codes will be added to bus cabins.
