Qanot Sharq, a privately-run passenger airline based in Uzbekistan, has received the CCAR-129 certificate from Chinese aviation authorities, allowing it to operate scheduled flights to China. The certificate was officially handed over on October 16, confirming the airline's compliance with the standards set by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
On the same day, Qanot Sharq announced a new partnership with Shaanxi Feijing International Travel Agency, a Chinese leisure operator. This collaboration aims to enhance the airline's capacity to attract passengers, particularly from Chinese tourist groups.
Following the recent arrival of its third widebody aircraft, an Airbus A330-300, Qanot Sharq has revealed plans to launch flights to major Chinese cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, from its hub in Tashkent.
Currently, Uzbekistan Airways is the only local airline providing flights to China, specifically to Beijing and Urumqi. However, the Uzbek Ministry of Transport has reported that two additional airlines, Centrum Air and Air Samarkand, are also pursuing the CCAR-129 certificate, aiming to enter the Chinese market.
This certification is crucial as it aligns with the updated bilateral air services agreement established this summer. The agreement expanded the number of designated Uzbek carriers allowed to operate flights to China from two to four. Under the new arrangement, Uzbek airlines can conduct up to 58 regular flights per week from Tashkent and Samarkand to 12 cities across China.
