ST Engineering, based in Singapore, has joined forces with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) to set up production facilities for a new 8×8 amphibious multi-purpose armored vehicle in Kazakhstan.
The partnership will include offering engineering and technical assistance for designing and producing the vehicle, which will be based on ST Engineering's proven Terrex Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). Production is set to start in 2025.
"This marks a breakthrough for our Land Systems business in terms of securing its first significant international land platform contract in recent years, as well as entry into a new market in Central Asia," said Lim Kok Ann, President of the Land Systems business at ST Engineering.
The partnership aims to combine the strengths of both companies to deliver a capable solution to the Kazakhstan Armed Forces. Aibek Baryssov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of KPE, highlighted that the company has the capacity to produce 500 armored vehicles of various types annually per shift. He emphasized KPE's experience in deep localization, scientific research, and operating armored vehicles in Kazakhstan’s unique geographic conditions.
“KPE, together with ST Engineering, will enable us to fully meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan for amphibious 8×8 vehicles,” Baryssov added.
The Terrex Infantry Fighting Vehicle offers protection, versatility, and customization options for various operational needs. It can be fitted with a remote-controlled weapon system, featuring a 0.5-inch heavy machine gun, a coaxial 40mm/7.62 machine gun, or a 30mm cannon. The vehicle also features an all-round camera system for enhanced situational awareness, as well as closed-hatch operation capability, allowing crews to engage adversaries without exposing themselves.
The vehicle’s digital architecture enables the integration of advanced technologies, such as vehicle navigation systems, battle management systems, power control management, and state-of-the-art communication systems, ensuring optimal performance in diverse operational environments.
