Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Switzerland has doubled over the past five years, reaching $341mn in 2023. This growing economic partnership was celebrated at the opening of Swiss Days 2024, held on November 23 in Tashkent. Organized by the Swiss Embassy, this annual event brought together over 30 Swiss companies under the theme "Switzerland: Quality. Innovation. Reliability."
Attended by Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, the event emphasized the strong economic and cultural ties between the two countries. Minister Kudratov highlighted the impressive growth in trade and investment, noting that more than 100 Swiss companies now operate in Uzbekistan, contributing to a total of $1.4bn in Swiss investments by the end of 2023.
The event showcased key areas of collaboration, with ongoing investment projects in critical sectors such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, construction, textiles, agriculture, and tourism. Swiss companies, with investments totaling over €400mn, are helping Uzbekistan embrace sustainable development, green technologies, and innovations in healthcare and education.
Swiss Days 2024 offered a platform for exploring new opportunities in mutual trade and industrial cooperation. The event also provided a space to discuss advancements in financial technologies and opportunities for expanding the pharmaceutical sector. Minister Kudratov reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to fully supporting Swiss companies and fostering a favorable environment for continued growth.
The event featured interactive activities, thematic exhibitions, and business meetings, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cultural exchange. Masterclasses were organized for government representatives, the business community, and the press to explore topics of innovation and sustainable development.
Swiss Days is an annual initiative by the Swiss Embassy in Uzbekistan to promote Swiss values of quality, innovation, and reliability while fostering deeper economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
