Sherzod Asadov, the Press Secretary of the president of Uzbekistan, has officially confirmed the dismissal of Abdusalom Azizov from his position as Chairman of the State Security Service.
Asadov clarified that Azizov has been transferred to the personnel reserve of the Security Council Secretariat, a body responsible for supporting the activities of the Council. This move does not equate to a new appointment or permanent employment in the Secretariat.
Reports suggesting that Azizov has taken up a specific position in the Security Council were refuted by Asadov, who emphasized that Azizov’s current status is limited to being in the personnel reserve.
Abdusalom Azizov, born in 1960, had been serving as the head of the State Security Service since February 2019. Before this role, he was the Minister of Defense from September 2017.
Between 2002 and 2006, Azizov held the position of Chairman of the Board at the “Uzbekneftegaz” National Holding Company. From September 2006 to November 2008, he led “Uzneftmahsulot,” a subsidiary of “Uzbekneftegaz.”
In November 2008, he rejoined the Ministry of Internal Affairs, initially serving as Deputy Minister for a brief period before becoming First Deputy Minister in December 2008, a role he held until December 2009. From 2009 to 2017, he was the head of the Jizzakh Regional Department of Internal Affairs.
Earlier Daryo mentioned that his dismissal might be connected to an attempted assassination targeting Komil Allamjonov, the former head of the Presidential Administration’s Information Department.
