French Minister of Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness, and Affairs of Citizens Abroad, Olivier Becht, held a press conference in Uzbekistan, where he discussed the priorities of cooperation between the two countries, "Daryo" correspondent reports.
He expressed confidence that French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Uzbekistan this year, although the exact date and format are still unknown. France has also expressed its willingness to provide new generation EPR-2 nuclear reactors for the nuclear power plant planned to be built in Uzbekistan if the country is interested.
However, Becht clarified that they had only discussed green energy, such as solar panels, hydropower, and thermal power plants, during his meeting with the Uzbek Minister of Energy.
Becht also listed energy, water supply, water resource management, and the development of tram lines in Tashkent as areas of active cooperation. He noted the joint projects of French companies such as EDF, Total Eren, and Voltalia on green energy in Uzbekistan.
The minister also emphasized the attractiveness of Uzbekistan to French citizens, with around 20,000 French tourists visiting the country annually. Accor's participation in the hotel business in Uzbekistan was also noted as a contributor to the development of tourism in the country.
