Uzbekistan is preparing to launch a pilot special economic zone modeled on Singapore’s development experience, according to the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade.

The initiative was discussed during a recent visit to Singapore by a delegation led by Minister Laziz Kudratov. The Uzbek side held talks with representatives of Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, Sembcorp Industries, and Wilmar International.
Negotiations focused on improving the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s existing special economic zones. The sides agreed to develop a program introducing international best practices, including a “single window” mechanism, unified management standards, a customer relationship management (CRM) platform, and upgraded infrastructure. The reforms are aimed at attracting strategic foreign investments and enhancing competitiveness.
A joint expert group will be formed to prepare the framework for the pilot economic zone. The zone will be designed in line with the Singapore model, which is recognized globally for its efficiency, governance, and investor-friendly environment.
In addition, the parties agreed to implement a major agro-industrial project in the Orta Chirchik (Urtachirchik) district of Tashkent region. The project is expected to create 1,800 new jobs and contribute to the development of the local economy.
Officials noted that the visit highlighted Singapore’s strong interest in long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan and opened up new opportunities for investment and joint ventures.
