Uzbekistan, ADB sign $3.6bn program to implement 23 new projects in 2025-2026

Uzbekistan, ADB sign $3.6bn program to implement 23 new projects in 2025-2026

Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to launch 23 new development projects worth $3.6bn for the 2025–2026 period, reinforcing their long-standing partnership in key sectors of socio-economic growth.

The agreement was reached during the 58th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors held in Milan from May 6 to 7. The Uzbek delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, participated in the high-level forum which gathered global financial leaders and policymakers.

A major outcome of the meeting was the official announcement that Uzbekistan will hold the chairmanship of the ADB Board of Governors for 2025–2026, with Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev confirmed as Chairman of the Board of Governors.

Earlier, it was announced that the 59th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors will take place in Samarkand in May 2026. This will be the second time Uzbekistan hosts the ADB’s flagship gathering.

The newly signed program of cooperation includes projects aimed at enhancing education systems, improving water supply infrastructure, expanding transportation networks, and providing financial and technical support across various sectors. These initiatives are expected to contribute to Uzbekistan’s national development goals and sustainable growth agenda.

ADB has provided over $5.41bn in financing to Uzbekistan over the past five years, making it one of the country’s major development partners. Its support has centered on advancing Uzbekistan’s green economy transition, strengthening the private sector, boosting economic competitiveness, and developing human capital.

Established in 1966, ADB is a prominent multilateral financial institution operating throughout Asia and the Pacific. It aims to foster inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development by working closely with member countries and partners. ADB addresses a wide range of challenges through innovative financing solutions and collaborative efforts to enhance infrastructure, support communities, and safeguard the environment.
