The momentum in mutual trade between Tajikistan and Russia continues to grow, with an increase in agricultural exports. From January to September 2024, Tajikistan's agricultural exports to the Russian Federation surged by over 30%, while imports of Russian goods to Tajikistan rose nearly 40%.
This information was shared by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Nigina Anvari, who highlighted that agricultural products now account for more than 70% of the total trade between the two countries.
Growth has been observed in specific agricultural sectors, with exports of cotton fiber increasing by 62%, fruits and vegetables by 47%, and dried fruits by 60%. These statistics underscore Tajikistan's growing presence in the Russian market.
In her remarks, Anvari emphasized Tajikistan's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Russia in the agricultural sector. The country aims to establish joint ventures to enhance production and streamline logistics.
This initiative not only seeks to boost exports to Russia but also to expand access to other international markets. By creating efficient export channels for Tajik producers in line with international standards, the initiative aims to reduce costs and improve competitiveness.
Overall trade turnover between Russia and Central Asian countries has surpassed $44bn, with Russia remaining a crucial partner for the region. This is particularly true for agricultural products, raw materials, and metals. As noted by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin in May, the region's foreign trade is heavily dependent on Russia, with 33% of trade facilitated through settlements in national currencies.
