In a move to support and recognize the efforts of athletes, Uzbekistan has introduced a monthly scholarship program. The initiative, outlined in a provision by the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, will benefit athletes who are part of the reserve or main national teams.
The scholarships will be awarded to athletes participating in sports included in the Olympic, Paralympic, Asian, and Para-Asian Games programs. However, those athletes already receiving monthly payments for their achievements in the Olympic and Paralympic Games will not be eligible for the scholarship.
The selection process will be overseen by a commission appointed by the Ministry. The Republican Sports Development Center and the National Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan will provide information about the candidates. Based on the data received, the commission will determine the recipients of the scholarships and set the duration of the payments.
The Scholarship Committee carefully reviews the list of candidates submitted by the relevant officials. Within 15 days, they meticulously examine the supporting documents that validate the candidates' achievements in competitions. During the commission's meeting, a collective decision regarding the approval or rejection of each scholarship application is reached through a general vote.
The scholarship amount has been set at 3 times the minimum wage, which currently equates to UZS 3.15 mn ($256). This financial support aims to provide athletes with a stable income and alleviate some of the financial burdens they may face during their training and competitions.
