Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the country's sports delegation for their outstanding performance at the 19th Asian Summer Games held in Hangzhou, China. The President's press service announced this congratulatory message, highlighting the remarkable achievements of Uzbekistan's athletes on the international stage.
During the XIX Summer Asian Games, which saw participation from 11,000 athletes representing 45 countries across the continent, Uzbekistan's national team achieved remarkable success. They secured a total of 22 gold, 18 silver, and 31 bronze medals, an extraordinary feat that brought immense pride to their nation.
In his message, President Mirziyoyev expressed his delight in the outstanding accomplishments of Uzbek athletes, particularly highlighting the significant role played by the country's female athletes.
"I consider it appropriate to note with special pleasure that 31 of our athletes won gold medals, and half of them - our girls. The fact that 132 of our representatives won a total of 71 medals and recorded a record result compared to the previous Asian Games pleases all of us,"said the president.
Furthermore, President Mirziyoyev emphasized that a total of 132 representatives from Uzbekistan contributed to this impressive medal tally, setting a new record compared to previous Asian Games. The nation's athletes excelled in various disciplines, outperforming developed countries in the realm of sports such as Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, North Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Kuwait, and even surpassing major sports powerhouses like China, Japan, South Korea. Uzbekistan proudly secured the fifth position, just behind India, in the overall rankings.
The President specifically highlighted two exceptional athletes, Zaynab Dayibekova and Anvar Klevleyev, for their remarkable achievements. "Zaynab Dayibekova, who has become the pride of Uzbek fencing sport, has shown that she is unmatched in the Asian continent in the saber team program, and Anvar Klevleyev has shown that she is stronger than most of her competitors in the slalom rowing competition, " the president said.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his confidence that Uzbek athletes would continue to reach new heights and make their mark on the international sports stage. He anticipated that they would deliver exceptional performances at the 33rd Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris in 2024.
