French renewable energy company Voltalia has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with the Uzbekistan government to construct a 100 MW solar power plant in the Khorezm region. The project, estimated to require an investment of $68 mn, will be situated on a vast area of 182.99 hectares in the Tuprokkala district of Khorezm. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Voltalia signed the PPP agreement, solidifying their commitment to the project.
Voltalia, a company founded in 2005, specializes in the production and distribution of environmentally friendly electricity across Europe, Latin America, and Africa. As of the end of 2022, the company's portfolio consisted of 51% wind farm projects, 44% solar projects, and the remaining 5% derived from biofuels and other sources. This collaboration represents an important step for Voltalia in expanding its operations and contributing to the global transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
The construction of the solar power plant in Khorezm aligns with Uzbekistan's ambitious goal of developing 12 GW of solar and wind capacity by 2030. This project will not only enhance the country's renewable energy infrastructure but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a greener future. By harnessing the abundant solar resources in the region, Uzbekistan aims to diversify its energy mix and achieve greater energy independence.
