Kazakhstan's agro-industrial complex has experienced a 5% increase in exports, reaching over $2.5bn in the past six months.
Crop production alone sold for over $1.5bn, while livestock exports reached $80mn. These figures have surpassed those of the previous period.
The top five exported goods were wheat, flour, sunflower oil, flax seeds, and barley.
During his annual state-of-the-nation speech on September 1, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to improve the domestic agro-industrial sector. He acknowledged the sector's enormous potential but noted that obstacles still prevent Kazakhstan from fully utilizing it.
The country is surrounded by markets that demand high-quality food staples, creating a strategic opportunity for Kazakhstan to become a leading agricultural hub in Eurasia. To achieve this, President Tokayev urged for an increase in the share of processed produce in the agro-industrial sector to 70% and emphasized that changes to the tax policy will be necessary.
