The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced that college students will receive a 50% increase in their scholarships.
The new school year will see 190,000 college students, with 133,000 studying under the state educational order.
The remaining 10,000 students will be studying based on enterprise applications.
The state educational order has been increased by 50,000 seats, as per President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's instructions. Of these, 75,000 students will study technical and vocational education courses.
The state order has been reoriented towards technical specialties like geology, energy, metallurgy, engineering, transport, IT, construction, pedagogy and medicine. Starting September 2023, scholarships for college students will be increased in phases, with a 50% hike in September 2023 and a 100% increase in 2024.
The ministry also provides social support to students, including scholarships, food, and travel. Additionally, 13 new dormitories with 2,500 seats each will be opened for college students in the upcoming school year.
