Kanat Bozumbayev has been appointed an advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, media reports.
Bozumbayev, an economist by profession, was born on January 8, 1969, in Almaty and holds a degree from the Kazakh State Academy of Administration.
Throughout his career, Kanat Bozumbayev has held various positions in different organizations, including serving as an assistant mayor of Almaty from 1993-1994, head of the Department of Regional Policy of the Ministry of Economy and Trade in 1997, and vice president on economic issues in the company "KazTransOil" from 1997-1998. He also held various positions in the Ministry of Energy before becoming its Minister in 2016.
Bozumbayev has served as an assistant to the President and also held the positions of mayor in Pavlodar, Zhambyl, and Almaty regions. During the events in Kazakhstan in January, he was the mayor of the Almaty region and resigned from that post in June 2022. Despite being an Honored Power Engineer of the Republic of Kazakhstan and receiving awards such as the Order "Kurmet" in 2005 and the medal "For Contribution to the Development of the Eurasian Economic Union" in 2019, according to his official biography, he has not held any public office for over a year.
Kanat Bozumbayev is a family man with three children.
