The Turkmenfilm crew is travelling to Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Russia and Uzbekistan to shoot documentaries about the 18th century classic of Turkmen literature Makhtumkuli Fraghi, Altyn Asyr TV channel reports.
Uzbekistan honours the legacy of Makhtumkuli, whose 300th anniversary will be celebrated in 2024. One of Tashkent's central streets is named after him, and a bas-relief of him was installed there in 2017.
Historians say there is documentary evidence that he once studied in Khiva and Bukhara and considered Alisher Navoi his mentor.
The information says that Turkmen film director Batyr Batyrov and his team are now working in Astrakhan region of Russia. According to sources, the first edition of Makhtumkuli's poems in Russian was published in these parts in 1912.
