The khokim (mayor) of Fergana region met with a delegation from Chinese company Inspur Smart Industry Group on August 14 to discuss plans for the production and deployment of “smart” water meters in the region, the regional administration reported.

The talks focused on projects aimed at digitalizing water supply systems and improving water resource management. During the meeting, Inspur presented a new intelligent water meter model designed for remote monitoring via a 4G network.
The device automatically shuts off water supply in case of unpaid bills, while consumption data is integrated into the regional water billing system to enhance transparency.
Khokim Bazarov highlighted the importance of transitioning to automated water management amid water shortages, emphasizing that equipment for the pilot project must be reliable and of high quality.

Both sides also discussed the possibility of localizing production at one of Fergana’s industrial technoparks, agreeing to start implementing the plans promptly.
In a separate meeting, Bazarov received the head of Xinjiang Xiya Kianking Keji, to discuss modernizing the sewerage system in Furkat district and introducing digital technologies to its operation. Wang expressed interest in regional renovation projects and said the company is studying investment opportunities in Fergana.
