Turkmenistan will supply Uzbekistan with 2bn cubic metres of gas annually, with plans to conclude a long-term contract with an increase in volumes, Uzbek Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov told Turkmenistan's international news portal.
The deal was signed between Turkmengaz and Uzgaztrade.
"...We were able to sign a short-term contract for the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the Republic of Uzbekistan in the amount of up to 2bn cubic metres annualy...This is only the beginning, we discussed broader prospects for mutually beneficial co-operation. This includes working out a long-term contract for a longer period of time with increased supplies".

According to him, Turkmen gas will help meet the growing demand of Uzbekistan's population, economic sectors and road transport.
The minister also noted that the talks in Ashgabat touched on the purchase of electricity from Turkmenistan and its transit.
Uzbekistan started to directly purchase electricity from Turkmenistan from 2019 and natural gas, which was previously re-exported by Russia's Gazprom, from December 2022.
Turkmenistan also supplies natural gas to China, Russia and Azerbaijan (via Iran).
