Earlier Daryo reported that Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy disclosed certain specifics of the deal on Russian gas delivery to the country, which was signed on June 16 during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Along with the agreement, a road map was signed to prepare Uzbekistan's gas transmission system for the acceptance and transportation of Russian pipeline gas.
Statement from the Ministry of Energy shows that a two-year agreement on the purchase and sale of gas has been signed between UzGasTrade and Gazprom Export. On the basis of a power of attorney, it was signed by Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov and Gazprom's Chairman of the Board Aleksey Miller.
The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan disclosed certain details of an agreement on June 19. "The agreement was developed entirely on commercial terms and is one of the measures to partially satisfy the republic's annually growing demand for natural gas, as well as to carry out the autumn-winter season without interruptions," statement reports.
Gas shipments in the amount of 9mn cubic metres per day are planned to commence on October 1 as part of the arrangement. According to the Energy Ministry, the annual volume will thus be over 2.8bn cubic metres.
"The cost of natural gas has been agreed upon on the basis of market prices in the region, current prices in the country, as well as planned reforms to form prices based on market conditions," the ministry stated.
"Given that previously natural gas was supplied to Russia in transit through Kazakhstan via the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline, and now gas will be supplied in reverse mode (in the opposite direction), as well as the need to build new gas measuring stations on Uzbekistan's territory. It is planned to complete the planned activities by September." the message says.
The Ministry of Energy informs, three units of gas pumping equipment will be replaced, and 11 units of various gas pumping equipment will be overhauled and restored, as well as the construction of 22 kilometres of new main gas pipelines and the repair of 56 kilometres of gas pipelines.
On June 16, Daryo had meantioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Zomart Tokayev met at the Kremlin in November 2022 to discuss the coordination needed to send Russian gas to both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The formation of a "tripartite gas union" with Uzbekistan as a member was also suggested.
