Residents of Tashkent and the capital region fear for the plight of the Chirchik River, Consumer.uz reports.
"Garbage along the shore, gravel in the center of the riverbed. All this is the result of massive developments, for which gravel was barbarously mined and construction debris was brought here. Someone perfectly "made some money" on the destruction of the riverbed," the message says.
In April, Rasul Kusherbayev, the Minister of Natural Resources said that Chirchik was turning into a dead river.
On May 30 it was reported that South Korea will allocate about $7 million for waste disposal in Uzbekistan, which will be used to implement a waste management project in the Jizzakh region and purchase garbage containers, equipment for waste disposal and composting.
Residents filmed the shore of Chirchik to show the effects of inefficient and inappropriate garbage disposal.
