The leader of the Turkish opposition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the main opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, spoke about the country's relations with Russia, Financial Times reports.
Turkish presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that if he wins the election, he will maintain economic ties with Russia, even if he "doesn't think it is right for Vladimir Putin to attack and occupy Ukraine."
The politician said that he wants to immediately resume negotiations on joining the EU, and plans to restore democratic institutions in Turkey in order not to turn the country into an autocracy.
"The independence of the judicial system, freedom of the press, and freedom of speech - all these must return," said Kilichdaroglu, adding that Ankara "cannot afford to waste time" with Erdogan as a leader.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously canceled all public events after reports of the illness. On April 26, Erdogan felt unwell during the live broadcast, so the interview was interrupted.
The mass media reported that the Turkish leader was sick with a stomach cold. After a few minutes break, Erdogan returned to the studio and explained that he was working on a tight schedule.
There were also unconfirmed reports on social networks that the president of Turkey had a heart attack and that his condition was serious. The Center for Combating Disinformation denied reports that Erdogan suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized.
On April 27, Erdogan participated in the opening ceremony of the "Oqkuyu" nuclear power plant in an online format.
