NATO member states will perform Air Defender 2023, the largest military aviation exercise in NATO history, from June 12 to June 23, the US National Guard's website reports.
The drills will feature around 220 aircraft of 23 different kinds. NATO has not undertaken such massive air drills since its inception in 1949.
The exercises are scheduled to take place mostly within the borders of nations neighboring Russia. The goal of Air Defender 2023 is to test the ability to swiftly mobilize and operate NATO aircraft at strategic locations.
Along with the US and Germany, 22 other ally countries will take part in the drills led by Germany. They will be held mostly in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, and Latvia, the US National Guard's press department reports.
Also, the Platinum Wolf-2023 military exercises, prepared in collaboration with the United States and eleven other NATO nations, are scheduled to take place in Serbia from June 16 to June 30.
