Uzbekistan has secured an additional $10mn in financing from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to support the development of oncology services, as part of the ongoing health sector project. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund's Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.

IsDB President, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, and Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, signed the amendment to the original financing agreement, which had already allocated $80mn for the project.
The additional funding aims to strengthen Phase II of the initiative, which focuses on expanding and enhancing oncology services throughout Uzbekistan.
The original project aims to improve access to quality oncology care for the population by constructing, rehabilitating, and equipping 16 oncology centers across the country, alongside establishing oncology cabinets in select districts. It also includes efforts to build institutional and human resource capacity and update clinical guidelines and protocols.
As of the end of 2024, the financial progress of the project has reached an impressive 92.10%, demonstrating significant advancement toward the project’s objectives.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Al Jasser emphasized the strategic importance of the project, noting its role in expanding access to high-quality health services for Uzbekistan's population. He further commended the strong collaboration between the IsDB Group and the Uzbek government, underscoring the nation's ongoing commitment to enhancing its healthcare infrastructure.
