Kazakhstan has decided to extend the ban on the export of liquefied gas, a measure first introduced to prevent the outflow of liquefied petroleum gas to neighboring countries and address potential shortages within the domestic market.

This decision was made during a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin.
The extension of this ban aims to protect Kazakhstan's energy supply, ensuring adequate gas availability for domestic consumers. By keeping more liquefied gas within the country, Kazakhstan seeks to prevent price fluctuations and meet the growing energy demands of its population.
In addition to the ban on liquefied gas, the meeting also addressed other measures to regulate commodity flows and promote domestic processing. Among these was the extension of a ban on the export of steel blanks and semi-finished products for another six months, a move that has already resulted in increased production of value-added steel products for export.
Kazakhstan has seen a rise in domestic production of these materials. In 2024, domestic companies produced 95,200 tons of paving stones, with 58,760 tons consumed locally. Additionally, 35.5mn square meters of plasterboard were produced, while domestic demand was 38.8mn square meters. To maintain market stability, local manufacturers have committed to keeping prices steady for these products.
The Commission also introduced a proposal for a three-month ban on the import of plasterboard and stone products from countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union, alongside extending anti-dumping measures on certain products from China and Ukraine.
Lastly, the Commission approved automatic licensing for plywood exports from Kazakhstan, a measure designed to closely monitor the flow of this commodity and ensure sustainable exports.
