Burger King, one of the world’s largest fast food restaurant chains, is expected to begin operations in Uzbekistan within the next two to three months. The announcement was made by Shukhrat Ergashev, founder of International Beverages Tashkent, during a recent video conference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Ergashev revealed that his company has secured a license to open Burger King restaurants in Uzbekistan, marking a step in the country’s fast food sector.
“Ten years ago, we were chasing brands like Burger King and McDonald’s, telling them, ‘Please come to Uzbekistan,’” he said. “Now we have reached an agreement and received a license. The Burger King company will open in 2–3 months.”
He also noted that Burger King has established its regional office in Tashkent and proposed issuing a license for operations across Central Asia. According to Ergashev, the presence of international brands such as Burger King plays a key role in attracting foreign investment.
“Other investors look at whether there’s a Burger King or McDonald’s in the country. For them, it’s a sign of economic openness,” he explained.
Founded in the United States in 1954, Burger King is the second-largest fast food chain globally, known primarily for its Whopper hamburgers.
Back in July 2021, reports indicated that Burger King was planning to enter the Uzbek market, with the first branch in Tashkent expected to open by the end of that year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the launch.
