From January to November 2024, a total of 66,600 Chinese nationals visited Uzbekistan, reports the State Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan, an increase of 24,100 visitors, or 56.8%, compared to the same period in 2023.
Among the Chinese visitors, the majority traveled for tourism purposes, with 53,964 individuals arriving to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and diverse landscapes.
Additionally, business travelers accounted for a significant portion of the arrivals, with 9,598 Chinese citizens visiting Uzbekistan for professional reasons.
The rest of the visitors came for various other purposes, including family visits (1,156), business engagements (1,132), educational pursuits (753), and medical treatment (2).
Improved connectivity
The increase in arrivals is also attributed to the improvement in bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and China, enhanced connectivity, and growing interest in exploring Central Asia’s unique cultural and historical landmarks.
- Starting December 18, 2024 Uzbekistan Airways will begin regular weekly flights from Tashkent to Sanya, a resort city on Hainan Island in southern China. And Centrum Air plans to soon conduct flights along this route.
- In mid-November, 2024 Uzbekistan Airways launched daily flights to Hangzhou, complementing its existing service to Beijing.
- Uzbekistan and China have agreed to increase flights operated by China Southern Airlines.
- The Beijing–Tashkent route will increase from four to seven flights per week.
- The Urumqi–Tashkent route will rise from three to four weekly flights.
- In 2025, China Southern Airlines will introduce three weekly flights on the Guangzhou–Urumqi–Tashkent route.
Uzbekistan’s government has been working to further expand its tourism sector, investing in infrastructure and promoting the country’s attractions to international visitors.
