Uzbekistan's largest airline, state-owned Uzbekistan Airways, is set to expand its European network by adding Spain as a new destination. Beginning in the summer of 2025, the airline will operate a weekly non-stop flight between Tashkent and Madrid.
This announcement comes after Uzbekistan Airways selected Summerwind as its representative in Spain. According to Summerwind's CEO, Elena Lledo Gomez, the strategic partnership will help raise the profile of Uzbekistan as an attractive destination for Spanish travelers.
The direct flight will operate every Monday, utilizing a Boeing 787 widebody aircraft, offering 24 business-class seats and 222 economy-class seats.
Currently, no Uzbek-based airlines serve Spain. However, this summer, Spanish carrier World2Fly operated charter flights between Madrid and Tashkent, as well as Urgench. Additionally, Iberojet, another Spanish airline, began serving the same routes in September.
At present, Uzbekistan Airways offers flights to several European destinations, including the United Kingdom (London), Germany (Munich and Frankfurt), Italy (Milan and Rome), and Latvia (Riga).
In September, Uzbekistan Airways signed a leasing agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for two Airbus A321neo aircraft. Set to be delivered in 2026, the planes will be sourced from SMBC Aviation Capital's direct Airbus orderbook. This acquisition is part of the airline's strategy to expand its network across Southeast Asia and Europe, improving connectivity for passengers.
