Qatar Airways marked a milestone with the inauguration of its first scheduled flight from Doha to Tashkent on June 2. The Airbus A320, carrying passengers from Qatar to Uzbekistan, landed at Tashkent International Airport at 13:30 local time. The arrival of the aircraft was celebrated with a traditional water salute, symbolizing a warm welcome and new beginnings.
The opening ceremony at Tashkent airport was attended by a distinguished group of officials and dignitaries. Among them were Javlonbek Umarkhojaev, the head of Uzbekistan Airports; Jasur Pulatov, the director of Tashkent airport; Tahir Nazarov, the head of the Civil Aviation Agency; and Jamoliddin Nazarov, the deputy head of the air transport department of the Ministry of Transport. Representing Qatar were Mohamed Faleh Al-Hajri, the head of the civil aviation department of Qatar, and Marwan Koleilat, Senior Vice President for Eastern Regions of Qatar Airways.
Umarkhojaev also emphasized the expected improvements in service quality at Tashkent Airport, inspired by the high standards of Hamad International Airport in Doha and Qatar Airways.
“Importing the level of service from Hamad Airport in Doha and Qatar Airways to Tashkent Airport”
is one of the anticipated outcomes of this collaboration, he added.
The journey duration is approximately three hours. Koleilat also hinted at future expansions, stating that there are plans to increase the frequency of flights to Tashkent and potentially initiate new routes to other Uzbek cities such as Bukhara and Samarkand.
Tashkent is the second city in Central Asia, after Almaty in Kazakhstan, to be included in Qatar Airways’ extensive network, which spans over 170 destinations worldwide. The airline, headquartered in Doha, has garnered numerous accolades, including being named the "World's Best Airline" seven times by Skytrax.
