Uzbekistan Airways has entered into a leasing agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for two Airbus A321neo aircraft, marking the airline's status as a new customer for the leasing company.
The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will be sourced from SMBC Aviation Capital's direct Airbus orderbook. This acquisition is part of Uzbekistan Airways' strategy to broaden its route network across Southeast Asia and Europe, enhancing connectivity for travelers.
"Uzbekistan Airways has set an ambitious goal to become a leader in air transportation in the Central Asia region. We plan to continually expand our route network, increase the number of flights, and operate efficiently with the new Airbus A320/A321neo family," said Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways.
Conor Stafford, Head of Airline Marketing at SMBC Aviation Capital, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership.
"We are delighted to welcome Uzbekistan Airways as a new customer and look forward to many successful years of collaboration," he stated.
Uzbekistan Airways, the national carrier of Uzbekistan, currently operates scheduled flights to over 75 destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America. The addition of the Airbus A321neo aircraft is expected to facilitate the airline's goal of becoming a prominent player in the Central Asian aviation market.
SMBC Aviation Capital, based in Ireland and owned by major Japanese financial institutions, boasts a fleet of over 1,000 aircraft, owned and managed globally. The new lease agreement signifies a promising development for both Uzbekistan Airways and SMBC Aviation Capital as they work together to enhance air travel in the region.
