On the sidelines of the annual meeting of governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev held a meeting with World Bank Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde to discuss the Kambarata HPP-1 project. This project is deemed crucial for the energy security and economic development of Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region.
During the meeting, Kasymaliev emphasized the importance of the Kambarata HPP-1, highlighting its strategic relevance not only for Kyrgyzstan but for regional stability and growth.
"The World Bank is our key partner, and we are confident that through joint efforts we will be able to implement this project, which is of the utmost importance for the region," he stated.
The discussion also covered the current economic situation in Kyrgyzstan and ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing public administration efficiency, fostering private sector development, and improving the livelihoods of citizens. Kasymaliev noted the positive trajectory of these reforms, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.
Bjerde commended Kyrgyzstan for its progress in implementing these reforms and reaffirmed the World Bank's dedication to supporting the country’s development goals.
"We will continue to support Kyrgyzstan in its efforts to build a more prosperous and inclusive society. The Kambarata-1 HPP project is a shining example of joint efforts to achieve sustainable development and strengthen regional cooperation," she said.
With a portfolio of $340bn in active programs, the World Bank plays a crucial role in addressing pressing global challenges, including poverty, climate change, and inequality.
