Chairman Akylbek Zhaparov of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan delved into discussions concerning the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway during meetings with the leadership of the World Bank Group in Washington, as reported by Azernews.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan highlighted that alongside the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant (HPP), this transportation project took precedence during the discussions. The overarching theme of these deliberations underscored the ongoing efforts to fortify the strategic relations between the World Bank and Kyrgyzstan.
In a meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, Vice President of the WB for Digital Development, Zhaparov elaborated on the digital support for the Kambarata-1 HPP and other energy initiatives, showcasing presentations on the subject matter.
Additionally, conversations between Zhaparov and Charles Cormier, the WB's Regional Director for Infrastructure, delved into the utilization of digital technologies within the energy sector. They also discussed the specifics of collaboration in implementing the Kambarata-1 HPP project.
During a separate session with Juergen Voegele, Vice President of the WB for Sustainable Development, attention was directed towards promoting sustainable and equitable economic growth within the country.
The proposed China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, spanning 454 kilometers, aims to link China's and Uzbekistan's railways via Kyrgyzstan's territory. Subsequently, it is intended to integrate with the European railway network through Turkmenistan, Iran, and Türkiye.
Earlier Daryo reported that preparatory procedures by the three nations involved in the $8 bn project to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway are nearing completion, signaling the imminent commencement of construction.
