Kyrgyzstan is striving to rank among the world’s top 30 countries by 2030, according to Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev, who outlined the country’s ambitious goals during the second meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea on October 14 in Ashgabat.
Kyrgyzstan’s economic development, Shakiev says, has maintained an average GDP growth of over 7% for the past three years, with GDP reaching a record high of KGS1.2 trillion ($14bn) in 2023.
"The national economy is developing dynamically, large-scale reforms are ongoing in all spheres. The active work is in progress on improvement of investment climate, development of small and medium-sized enterprises," he added.
During the meeting, which focused on strengthening ties between South Korea and Central Asian countries, Shakiev highlighted the potential for deeper cooperation.
Shakiev highlighted The Republic of Korea, as one of the world’s leading economies, has valuable experience in the field of technical innovation, industry, and agriculture.
"And Central Asia has enormous resources and potential for sustainable development. In order to achieve common goals, it is necessary to intensify partnership on issues of mutual interest. And in this process, inter-parliamentary dialogue is of great importance,” Shakiev stated, calling for stronger partnerships to achieve mutual goals.
The Speaker also addressed environmental issues, referencing Kyrgyzstan’s mountainous terrain and the United Nations’ declaration of 2023-2027 as the “Five Years of Action for Development of Mountain Regions,” an initiative led by Kyrgyzstan. He invited participants to join the upcoming Second Global Mountain Summit, “Bishkek +25,” scheduled for 2027.
Shakiev additionally emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue as a key tool for strengthening cooperation and achieving sustainable development in the region.
