The Kara-Suu border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan closed for the past 14 years, is scheduled to reopen soon. The crossing, referred to as Karasu on the Uzbek side, has been prepared to resume operations in the coming days, according to Economist.kg.
Elchibek Jantaev, the plenipotentiary representative of the Kyrgyz president in the Osh region, inspected the border post during a working visit and confirmed its readiness for reopening. The reopening of this crossing is expected to ease traffic on the main border corridor between the two nations, Dostuk-Dustlik. Jantaev also emphasized the need for road expansion leading to the post and for ensuring proper management of the area.
During his visit, Jantaev also inspected the Intymak checkpoint and the ongoing restoration of the bridge over the Sharkan-Sai canal. The government anticipates that reopening the road will improve transportation connectivity between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced the launch of an electronic queue system for freight vehicles at the Kyzyl-Kiya border crossing, located in the Batken region. This system will be tested from November 1 to December 15, 2024, as part of a pilot project.
The project is supported by the Ready4Trade Central Asia International Trade Center and financed by the European Union. The introduction of this electronic queue system aims to accelerate border crossing procedures, optimize logistics, and reduce transportation costs, helping to mitigate trade barriers in the region.
These developments are expected to contribute to the overall efficiency of border operations, strengthening trade and transport ties between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
