The Chinese government will provide a grant of CNY 200mn (over $28mn) to support Kyrgyzstan's development, as announced by the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and Commerce. The funds will finance socially significant projects in priority sectors.
The agreement was signed on September 19 in Beijing, following a meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Chinese Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The Kyrgyz delegation, led by Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, participated in the talks.
During the visit, Torobaev also met with Chinese business leaders. In discussions with Zoomlion, a major agricultural machinery manufacturer, both sides explored the possibility of supplying machinery to Kyrgyzstan and establishing a training center for assembling agricultural equipment.
Torobaev highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to boost agricultural exports to China, including the near completion of a warehouse near the Irkeshtam checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, which aims to increase trade between Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and China.
In talks with Jiangnan Delivery (GZ) Food Supply Chain Co., Ltd, a prominent Chinese agricultural product importer, the discussions focused on e-commerce collaboration and the proposal to build a laboratory in Kyrgyzstan, which would facilitate the entry of Kyrgyz goods into the Chinese market.
Trade between China and Kyrgyzstan has been growing rapidly, with total trade turnover reaching $20bn in 2023, a 32% increase from the previous year. From January to July 2024, bilateral trade amounted to nearly $11bn.
