Iran and Turkmenistan have agreed to launch flights from Mashhad to Ashgabat, Mrud News (Iran) reports. The schedule for the passenger and cargo will be decided in the next two months.
This was announced by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash, who recently paid a working visit to Turkmenistan.
Mashhad is the centre of Khorasan Razavi province, which shares a 531km border with Turkmenistan. The Shia holy city is also a centre for medical tourism.
According to Iranian figures, 793 Turkmen citizens visited Mashhad for this purpose in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (which began on 21 March).
