Turkmen Ambassador Shadurdy Meredov has met with Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan.
Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reports that special attention was paid to the development of inter-parliamentary ties. "The sides exchanged views on priority areas of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of friendship and good-neighbourliness."
The Parliament of Uzbekistan said the relations between the neighbouring countries have reached a new level in recent years as a result of political will and visionary policy of the leaders of the two states.
The Treaty on Strategic Partnership of 6 March 2017 and the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan of 21 October 2022 became the fundamental documents that laid a solid foundation.
"Friendly ties between the two brotherly states, open and pragmatic foreign policy of our country, mutual trust in all spheres are an important factor in deepening and expanding cooperation."
State visits at the highest level attest to this. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid official and state visits to Uzbekistan in July and September 2022, as well as in November this year.
"The particularly trusting and warm relations developed between the presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan serve as a basis for cooperation successfully developing both in bilateral and regional formats."
The 1,650km border with Uzbekistan is Turkmenistan's longest. The two countries have agreed to develop cross-border trade and cooperate in international freight transport.
