The share of transit oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in January-September 2023 was 3.8mn tonnes, which is 6.7% more than last year, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reports.
The length of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey oil pipeline with a capacity of 50mn tonnes is 1,768,000 km. Its shareholders are: BP; SOCAR; MOL; Equinor; TPAO; ENI; Itochu; ExxonMobil; INPEX, TotalEnergies and ONGC-Videsh.
In total, 22.6mn tonnes of oil were pumped through the BTC during the period under review, 4.5% more than last year.
Experts told Daryo that the transport of Turkmen oil, delivered by tankers across the Caspian Sea, had intensified a few years ago.
International trader Vitol, a partner of Turkmenistan's Napeco, has agreed (2021) with Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR to transport 1.0mn tonnes a year from Turkmenistan.
The crude comes from the Caspian fields of Dragon Oil (UAE) and ENI (Italy), which operate in the Turkmen market under Production Sharing Agreements (PSA).
