Preparations are underway for Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's upcoming official visit to Turkey. This was the subject of talks between the foreign ministers of Turkey and Turkmenistan, Hakan Fidan and Rashid Meredov, in Ashgabat on 11 October.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the two delegations discussed trade, energy, transportation, construction services, interparliamentary cooperation, education, cultural and consular matters.
Turkey is one of Turkmenistan's largest trading partners. Last year, the total trade turnover amounted to $2.06bn, which is 21.8% more than in the previous year.
Experts told Daryo that Ashgabat and Ankara are interested in implementing the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan.
This infrastructure is expected to provide an additional source of supply to the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which runs through the Caucasus region and Turkey to Europe.
