Tragedy struck the Grand Canyon on August 1 when a bus carrying tourists rolled over, resulting in the death of one person and injuring over 50 others, ABC news reported. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. at Grand Canyon West, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Hualapai Emergency Services were immediately notified of the bus rollover, and a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies was launched to provide aid and medical assistance to the victims. Responding to the distress call were Hualapai Emergency Services, GCW Air Rescue Fire, Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire Dept., Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire Dept., AMR ambulances, Bullhead Fire Dept., and five medical flight agencies.
Out of the 57 individuals injured in the accident, eight were flown to nearby hospitals due to the severity of their injuries. The remaining victims, who sustained non-critical injuries, were transported by ground transportation to receive medical treatment.
As of now, authorities have not released any information about the deceased individual or the cause of death. The investigation into the incident is currently being handled by the Hualapai Nation Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Grand Canyon West, where the tragic event occurred, is managed by the Hualapai tribe in Arizona. The Grand Canyon West has no operational ties to Grand Canyon National Park, which is managed by the National Park Service.
