Kairat Torebayev, Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, recently informed journalists that Kazakhstan has agreed to receive a 30% discount on the transit of goods passing through Turkmenistan en route to Afghanistan.
Kazakhstan plans to maintain its partnership with Uzbekistan to provide Afghanistan with flour and grain. Previously, Kazakhstan had requested that Uzbekistan lower transit tariffs for Kazakh flour products to boost exports to Afghanistan.
The potential use of Turkmenistan as a supply route for Kazakh wheat and flour to Afghanistan could considerably reduce delivery time.
Besides, Kazakhstan has initiated discussions with the Pakistani firm National Logistics Cell to facilitate secure trade between the two countries. A pilot project has already been launched, covering a distance of 4,000 km for cargo transportation from Kazakhstan to Pakistan and back.
Kazakhstan considers Afghanistan its primary flour market, with 70% of its total flour exports directed toward the country.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the current trade between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan is nearing the $1bn mark. Kazakhstan's Ministry of Trade aims to triple this amount in the future.
